About Our Client

We are partnering with one of our local clients to recruit a Light Duty Diesel Technician for their growing automotive operation. Our client is an established, privately owned, automotive dealership in Charlotte with a large and diverse inventory of pre-owned vehicles, including a significant number of diesel and heavy-duty trucks. They are looking for a dependable technician who brings strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and an interest in continuing to develop their skills.

Position Overview

The Light Duty Diesel Technician will serve as an A-level technician responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered trucks and other vehicles within the dealership’s inventory.

This position is a strong opportunity for an experienced technician with advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting skills who is comfortable working across a wide variety of domestic and import makes and models.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on automotive work, approaches problems methodically, and takes pride in completing repairs correctly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical and drivability concerns on light-duty diesel trucks and other vehicles.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and routine mechanical repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engine and related vehicle systems.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical and electronic issues.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and identify needed repairs or maintenance.
  • Support the reconditioning and preparation of vehicles for sale.
  • Work on diesel pickup platforms including Ford Power Stroke, GM Duramax, and Ram/Cummins vehicles.
  • Install, diagnose, repair, or service aftermarket components and modified vehicles, including tuned platforms, superchargers, lift kits, lighting, and other performance upgrades.
  • Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, lifts, and other shop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Communicate vehicle conditions, repair needs, and completed work clearly with other members of the team.
  • Maintain an organized, professional, and safe work environment.
  • Continue developing technical knowledge of diesel systems and automotive repair.
Desired Qualifications
  • Approximately 1–5 years of relevant automotive or diesel mechanical experience.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining or repairing light-duty trucks or automobiles.
  • General understanding of diesel engine operation and related mechanical systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to safely operate common automotive tools and shop equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Dependable and comfortable working in a fast-paced automotive environment.

Professional shop experience is preferred, but we also recognize that some talented technicians develop significant skills outside of a traditional automotive workplace.

Strongly Preferred
  • Experience working with Ford Power Stroke, GM Duramax, and/or Ram/Cummins diesel platforms.
  • Previous experience in a dealership, independent repair facility, fleet operation, or automotive shop.
  • Experience with diesel diagnostics.
  • Experience with diesel aftermarket components and modified vehicles, including tuning, superchargers, lift kits, lighting, and performance upgrades.
  • Automotive or diesel technical training or certifications.
