Senior Software Engineer (Backend Focus) | AWS | Python | Node.js - (W2 Contract) - Hybrid in Charlotte, NC

Optomi, in partnership with a leading electric and gas utility company, is seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer with a strong backend development focus to join an Enterprise Strategy & Innovation team responsible for designing and delivering innovative technology solutions across the organization.

This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, building applications from the ground up, and working with emerging technologies. Rather than maintaining traditional enterprise applications, this team focuses on developing new solutions across cybersecurity, physical security, supply chain, finance, and other business functions.

The ideal candidate will bring strong backend engineering expertise, experience building APIs and integrating complex systems, and the ability to own full-stack application development from initial concept through production. This individual will collaborate closely with AI engineers, automation specialists, and product teams to turn innovative ideas into scalable, production-ready applications.

• Strong professional experience in backend software engineering, with the ability to develop and maintain full-stack applications.
• Proficiency in one or more backend technologies such as Python, Node.js, Type Script, or Java.
• Experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs, microservices, and backend services.
• Hands-on experience developing and deploying applications within AWS cloud environments.
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks such as Angular, React, or similar technologies.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, system integrations, data flows, and backend processing.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software engineering practices.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot complex technical challenges and translate ambiguous business requirements into functional software solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working across engineering, product, and business teams.
• A proactive, analytical mindset with a passion for problem-solving, learning new technologies, and taking ownership of deliverables.

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
• Familiarity with Concourse or similar CI/CD platforms.
• Experience with data engineering, data pipelines, or complex data integrations.
