Position Overview
Coordinator of Aquatics – a temporary full‑time position (40 hours per week) located at the University Recreation Center. The appointment is for 12 months, beginning 16 Feb 2026, with regular attendance Monday‑Friday 8:00‑5:00 and occasional nights and weekends. Pay is $23.18 per hour.

- Facilitate daily operations of all aquatic facilities, including the University Recreation Center indoor and outdoor pools and the Roy Fielding Aquatic Center in Belk Gym.
- Serve as the primary pool operator, maintaining permits for all three pools.
- Ensure all facilities operate within required risk‑management procedures and oversee the implementation of standardized safety practices.
- Collaborate with the Outreach & Engagement team to develop and execute strategic marketing initiatives, ensuring increased visibility of UREC facilities.
- Maintain facility operations pages on the UREC website.
- Review daily reports and respond or delegate any necessary action as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate usage data and regularly assess facility operations to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance with university, state, and national standards and best practices.
- Supervise student employees, including Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and other aquatics staff.
- Facilitate student employee trainings and meetings that ensure job responsibilities are met and foster the development of leadership and other career readiness skills.
- Participate as a member of the UREC professional staff team, including meetings and assigned department committees.
- Ensure that the UREC mission is achieved and values are upheld.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of department strategic plans and annual goals/priorities.
- Advocate for UREC and foster campus and community partnerships to advance physical activity and holistic wellbeing.
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory Health & Wellbeing Unit, Student Affairs, and UNC Charlotte meetings and trainings.
- Serve on Health & Wellbeing Unit, Student Affairs, and UNC Charlotte committee and working groups as assigned.
- Actively participate in NIRSA and/or other relevant professional associations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Operations.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information securely, ensuring the safety and security of vulnerable populations (non‑student minors or animals). Direct access to or responsibility for areas designated by the University as safety or security sensitive. Direct access to or responsibility for cash, credit card information, university property disbursements or receipts, or extensive authority for committing the University's financial resources. Master key access to buildings, residence halls, or other secure facilities.
- Work independently with oversight, meeting regularly with the Associate Director of Operations, and accurately represent the University at all times.
- Provide hiring, terminating, training, and disciplining of direct reports (full‑time and part‑time) and indirect supervision of all other student staff within the UREC operations team.
- American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
- American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, and AED instructor certification.
- Lifeguard Instructor Certification.
- Water Safety Instructor Certification.
- Certified Pool Operator Certification (obtain within first six months of employment).
- Bachelor's degree in recreation, sport management, kinesiology, or a related field.
- Experience managing a pool.
- Master's degree in higher education, recreation, sport management, kinesiology, or a related field (preferred).
- 1–3 years of experience working in collegiate recreation and/or aquatics (preferred).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of aquatics, pool maintenance, safety standards, and risk management.
- Proposed hire date: 02/16/2026.
- Expected length of assignment: 12 months.
