Airport Operations Center Agent

Overview

The City of Charlotte’s Aviation Department seeks an Airport Operations Center (AOC) Agent to support situational awareness, coordination, and dispatch for airport operations. This role receives and documents operational calls, monitors airport systems, and facilitates timely communication between internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure safe, secure, and efficient airport operations.

• Receive, prioritize, and document incoming calls related to airport operations, maintenance, irregular operations, security, incidents/emergencies, and general inquiries.
• Enter incidents, work orders, and notifications into CAD and other incident-tracking software.
• Dispatch appropriate personnel or departments based on the call type.
• Monitor critical airport systems (building monitoring, fire and life safety, access control, video, CAD, radios, emergency notification, paging, weather, etc.).
• Identify and escalate anomalies, alarms, or system failures in real time.
• Maintain constant communication with Airport Operations, Maintenance, Security, Emergency Services, and other stakeholders.
• Support irregular operations (IROPS), including aircraft diversions, gate changes, and emergency response.
• Assist in implementing airport emergency plans and disseminating alerts and notifications.
• Provide situational awareness and perform information gathering, hazard identification, and decision-making.
• Assess situations quickly and determine the proper course of action within established rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Maintain accurate logs of calls, incidents, and system alerts; generate shift reports and summaries; support after-action reviews with detailed incident records.

• High school diploma or equivalent plus four years of experience in aviation operations or communications centers.
• Associate’s degree preferred with 1-2 years of experience, or high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of experience.
• Experience in airport operations, airport management, communications, dispatch, or operations center environment (aviation or public safety preferred).

• North Carolina driver’s license (or valid driver’s license in another US territory with the ability to obtain NC license as required by policy).

• Situational awareness and attention to detail; multitasking and prioritization under pressure.
• Team collaboration and stakeholder communication; professionalism and discretion with sensitive information.
• Knowledge of airport operations, 14 CFR Part 139 and 49 CFR Part 1542, public safety, telecommunications, and two-way radios.
• Knowledge of ICS/NIMS; ability to communicate clearly in writing and verbally; data organization and prioritization during routine and emergency operations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; establish professional relationships with colleagues, other agencies, tenants, employees, and the public.
