Summary

The Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) Airside Operations is responsible for coordination and regulatory compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other federal, state, and city government rules and regulations. Airside Operations is responsible for maintaining an active FAA Airport Operating Certificate under Part 139, as well as Programming, overarching. Airside Operations Coordinators perform skilled work including safety and security in sections of the Air Operations Area that includes runways, taxiways, safety areas, and other terminal facilities.

The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and enforcing the rules that govern the operations of the airfield and airport tenants. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and written, and assess situations quickly and objectively while determining the proper course of action within established rules, regulations, and procedures while representing CLT in a professional and positive manner.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures federal regulatory compliance with FAR Part 139 and 77 by adhering to SOPs, ACM, WHMP, AEP, and other working documents through the Airport’s Self-Inspection program.
  • Enforces Airport established rules and regulations that govern the operation of the airfield and airport employees.
  • Participates and coordinates in federal programs to comply with FAA and TSA regulations that are required for commercial service airports.

  • Conducts vehicle escorts on the Air Operations Area, assists airport stakeholders and public as needed.
  • Act decisively and exercise independent judgment within established rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Responds calmly and effectively during emergency and irregular operations incidents following NIMS/ICS structure.
  • Assists other Airport Operations Sections to ensure continuity of operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree plus three years of related experience or high school diploma/GED plus five years of experience. One-year experience at a FAR Part 139 commercial service airport in airport operations, safety, airport management preferred. AAAE ACE-Operations or Certified Member designation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Thorough knowledge of FARs Part 139, 77 and applicable Advisory Circulars, aviation departmental rules and regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of other applicable federal regulations including FAR Part 121, TSR Part 1542, and NIMS/ICS.
  • Considerable knowledge of airport operations, FAA standards, hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Skills to communicate clearly and effectively verbally in person, over the febrero and two-way radio systems.
  • Ability to organize data and prioritize resources during routine and emergency operations.
  • Skills in various computerized systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agencies, tenants, employees and the public while representing CLT in a professional, positive manner.
Physical Requirements Works mainly outside or within a vehicle. Spends about 75% of the time sitting, standing and walking. Must be able to walk up to one mile, drive up to 25 miles daily and lift up to 25 lbs. Must be able to climb and descend stairs, perform inspections on foot and in a vehicle, operate various features of the terminal facility, including elevators, escalators, lighting, automatic doors, and security gates.
