Overview
This job profile is for faculty members hired to complete a short-term and/or part-time academic work assignment, such as teaching one or more courses for one or two academic terms.
The Professional and Enrichment Programs (PEP) unit in the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applications for one or more non-tenure track, part-time (faculty wage) lecturer position(s) to develop a course and teach in the Certified Public Manager (CPM) program beginning in January 2026. The CPM program is hybrid, with the first and last modules in person in Charlottesville, VA and the remaining modules online.
The CPM program is an intensive hybrid program for emerging leaders in public management and is aligned with the competencies established by the National Certified Public Manager Consortium (NCPMC).
- Develop curriculum for the Certified Public Manager program.
- Teach in the Certified Public Manager program in a part-time capacity.
- Adapt instruction for hybrid (in-person and online) delivery as needed.
Required
Education:
- A master’s or terminal degree (e.g., MPA or DPA) from an accredited institution in public administration.
Required Experience:
- At least 3 years of leadership experience in the public sector
- At least 3 years of teaching/training experience in public administration
- Curriculum development experience
- Experience with online and in-person intensive public administration training/education programs
- Willingness to learn and stay current with teaching strategies and technologies
Preferred Experience:
- 5+ years of higher education teaching experience in public administration
- Relevant industry certifications and/or professional memberships
- Proficiency using Canvas or similar LMS platforms
Successful candidates will have extensive public administration and leadership experience and expertise, as well as relevant graduate school education and evidence of current/recent professional experience. Public administration subject area needs include those identified as core competencies by the NCPMC: personal and organizational integrity, managing work, leadership (including motivation, strategic planning, feedback, accountability, conflict management, change management), developing self, systemic integration and innovation, and public service focus.

The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.
