Assistant or Associate Professor of English

The University of Virginia's Department of English/Program in Creative Writing-one of the nation's highest ranked ( (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).  )-invites applications for a tenure-line Assistant or Associate Professor in Fiction, expected to begin August 10, 2027. We are looking for candidates who can teach undergraduate and graduate workshops and seminars in fiction, as well as in a secondary or subgenre such as creative nonfiction, literary translation, graphic narrative, writing for performance, etc.

Teaching responsibilities will be two courses per term. The successful candidate must demonstrate promise of continued creative excellence, excellence in teaching, and appropriate preparation to assume service responsibilities within the Creative Writing Program, including the undergraduate Literary Prose Concentration. The department will select a candidate who can contribute, through research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of a well-established academic community.

Rank will be determined based on qualifications.

Required Qualifications:

- MFA in Creative Writing

Preferred Qualifications:

- at least three years of teaching experience at the university level

- at least two literary books released by nationally recognized publishing houses

- significant publications in secondary or sub-genre
