OpportunityStantec’s Charlottesville, Virginia office seeks a scientist or engineer with 2–5 years of experience to support a variety of environmental and engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities- Collect, document, compile, and interpret project data for management review and incorporation into project documents.
- Gather and organize project data, conduct analysis, prepare reports, and provide recommendations independently.
- Participate in civil/environmental engineering assignments related to environmental permitting, remediation, compliance, stormwater management, site design, etc.
- Conduct field work such as soil and groundwater sampling.
- Prepare supporting documentation and reports including engineering calculations, regulatory compliance reports, SWPP plans, SPCC plans, Tier II reports, TRI reports.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is mandatory.
- Strong technical and problem‑solving skills.
- Willingness to accept occasional short‐ and long‑term field assignments.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Drug screen required for this position.
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, civil, engineering, or related science.
- 2–5 years of engineering consulting experience.
- Experience with civil/environmental engineering software such as AutoCAD, MathCAD, Hydro
CAD, Arc View GIS, etc. is preferred. - Eligibility for or possession of EIT certification and willingness to obtain a Professional Engineering license when eligible.
- HAZWOPER health and safety training (40‑hour certificate with an 8‑hour annual refresher) desirable but not required; successful candidates will be required to complete 40‑hour HAZWOPER training and be entered into the medical monitoring program upon hire.
- Additional related certifications (e.g., Certified Asbestos Inspector) are desirable and should be noted.
