Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Advanced Practice Provider (APP/NP/PA) -Infectious Disease-Ryan White HIV Program

This APP will practice in a busy HIV clinic, working closely with other APPs, residents, fellows, faculty attendings in the Division of Infectious Disease, pharmacists, RN coordinators and clinic support staff. Exceptional communication skills, the ability to work well as part of a large, diverse specialty team, an interest in infectious disease and HIV, independence, and intellectual/academic curiosity will be foundational to success in this role.

Globally, the incumbent APP will be responsible for assessment, diagnosis, and the development and implementation of patient‑specific treatment plans. This clinician will order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, as well as consult with other members of the healthcare team when appropriate. Likewise, they will guide patients and families regarding treatments.

UVA’s Ryan White HIV Program is located in UVA’s infectious disease clinic. The full‑time APP in this role will work 8 4‑hour templated sessions weekly, with an allotment of 8 hours each week for non‑patient‑facing activities (note‑writing, pre‑charting, follow‑up communication, in‑basket work, etc.). While the primary focus of this work will be HIV‑oriented, there will also be considerable overlap with primary care activities given the primacy of HIV to this population’s overall healthcare.

Support for the role is provided by medical and non‑medical case managers, program medical leadership, and dedicated pharmacy support.

Professional support is provided by UVA Health’s Center for Advanced Practice, a professional and leadership structure focused on our advanced practice clinicians.

  • Experience practicing in an ambulatory/clinic setting preferred
  • Experience in infectious disease, internal medicine, primary care, immunocompromised or immune‑suppressed populations a plus

Certifications of particular interest include

Background checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
