COMMUNITY OUTREACH ENGAGEMENT PEER SPECIALIST, RE-ENTRY (GRANT FUNDED)- CHARLOTTESVILLE (FULL-TIME) role at Region Ten CSB
OverviewThis is a FLSA non-exempt grant funded position and contingent upon continued grant support. The incumbent serves as a CSA B Peer Support Specialist as part of the Community Outreach team that provides Peer support services to consumers at the Peterson Building and Blue Ridge Center. The incumbent is responsible for providing recovery support services for consumers that are currently incarcerated and have been referred for SUD treatment, a history of incarceration, affiliated with a specialty court docket (Adult Recovery Court, Family Recovery Court, or Therapeutic Docket), or SUD-specific programs that target priority populations such as Project Link.
The incumbent uses his/her own life experience in order to coach and support consumers in their recovery. The incumbent will work collaboratively with community partners at ACRJ, OAR, local DSS offices, and other departments within Region Ten to best support consumers working to transition back into the community from incarceration or progress through their court program.
The incumbent reports directly to the Program Manager of Recovery Support Services. The incumbent is expected to perform duties as specified and according to the policies of Region Ten Community Services Board, as well as those of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
QualificationsEDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field (preferred)
- 72-hour DBHDS Peer Support Specialist training completed prior to hiring (preferred)
Experience
- 1-year experience is preferred working (paid or unpaid) in a peer support role.
- Personal experience in recovery is required
- Sustained personal recovery is recommended
Certification/License
- Certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist is preferred at time of hire, and required to be obtained within 1 year of employment.
