Pharmacy Technician
Prepares and delivers medications to patients and/or nursing units under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist/licensed independent practitioner. Online classroom training is offered through Pharmacy Technician University. (Must pass Reading Comprehension and Math Pre‑enrollment Assessments in three attempts or fewer. A minimum score of 70% is required for each assessment prior to acceptance into the program). Experiential training takes place in a state‑of‑the‑art pharmacy, followed by preparation for passing the national certification exam.
Candidates who accept the position will continue in their role as a pharmacy technician after completing the program and achieving their Virginia Registration, and must obtain that registration within two years of employment.)
The successful incumbent would preferably be available to work the evening shift (12:00 pm-8:30 pm), as well as rotating Saturdays. Final shift assignments are made at the discretion and approval of the hiring manager.

About the DepartmentLocated at 1725 Discovery Dr., Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22911. UVA Specialty Pharmacy supports patients with complex and chronic conditions including cancer, HIV, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, and transplant‑related therapies.

- Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent. - Experience:
No experience required. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy within two years of hire required. Must register as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee upon hire with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Persons enrolled in a pharmacy technician training program must obtain a pharmacy technician trainee registration if they will be performing the duties of a pharmacy technician.

6 months of relevant experience. - Licensure/
Certifications:
Commonwealth of Virginia Pharmacy Technician Registration required. CPhT credential through National Health career Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required. For team members hired prior to February 1, 2020, certification as CPhT through NHA or PTCB is required by January 31, 2022.
Job requires standing for prolonged periods. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift, push, pull less than 20 lbs.
Onboarding RequirementsBackground checks and pre‑employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety‑sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen.
Position Compensation Range: $19.49 – $30.21 Hourly
