D required - PGY1 residency, PGY2 Internal Medicine, or equivalent hospital experience required

This role supports pediatric pharmacy services for the 125‑bed UVA Children’s Hospital. The schedule is primarily day shift, and the pharmacist will be trained to cover the following primary clinical areas:
- Inpatient hematology/oncology/GI
- General pediatrics (includes endocrine, renal, cardiac and solid organ transplant)
- Outpatient pediatric infusion center
- Option to train in ambulatory clinics
Additional clinical training includes Level IV NICU and PICU. Flexibility to cover these shifts is required. Staffing may also include coverage of the pediatric satellite pharmacy (verification of pediatric specific oral dosage forms). The position staffs every fourth weekend along with other members of the pediatric team in a dedicated clinical coverage of the Children’s Hospital and is responsible for covering all pediatric service lines outlined above.
Additional rotational shift coverage expectations: coverage of evening shift per weekend rotation or vacations/vacancies of evening pediatric pharmacists, and night‑shift (after 1 year of service) per department rotation to cover vacations or vacancies of overnight pharmacists (roughly 3‑4 night shifts every 6 months).
Additional job expectations include precepting pharmacy students and both PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents, participating in team and department goal setting and achievement, developing and implementing protocol and guideline updates. Other responsibilities may be delegated by the manager or team lead depending on need and interest areas of the applicant. The pharmacist ensures the safe and effective use of medications by providing medication order verification while assessing for optimal drug product selection, dosage regimen design, effective administration and drug therapy monitoring services in the UVA Medical Center.
The pharmacist monitors inpatient and outpatient drug therapies when appropriate and works with related medical staff to find alternatives when needed to ensure the best care possible is being given.
- Education:
Bachelor’s in Pharmacy or Pharm. D Degree required. - Experience:
PGY‑1 residency required or equivalent hospital experience (3 years). PGY‑2 residency is preferred for specialty areas. - Licensure:
Commonwealth of Virginia State Board of Pharmacy license required. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider and BLS certification required.
Provides pharmacy services and medication management in specialty areas including pharmacy automation, demonstrating advanced technical skills and ownership for the work area. This role works in the build, implementation, and maintenance of automation and technology to optimize pharmacy practice, pharmacy systems, and the medication‑use process.
- Maintains and provides support of pharmacy information and medication automation systems and all pharmacy application systems to ensure safe and appropriate use of medications and pharmacy operations.
- Demonstrates clinical workflow analysis and solves problems, recommending solutions for pharmacy informatics applications and the medication use processes.
