Data Science Professional or , Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Data Science Professional 1 or 2 to work with Dr. Thomas Shin on robotic and surgical data sciences. Level will be determined by qualifications. The ideal candidate will have dual expertise in clinical surgery/surgical diseases and data science to support our expanding robotic and surgical data science program.

• Conducting clinical and data-driven research utilizing institutional and national databases
• Curating and maintaining our institutional surgical databases
• Accessing and managing large-scale datasets, and advancing our robotic/surgical data science initiatives
• Bridging the gap between clinical surgical knowledge and computational analytics, enabling sophisticated analyses of surgical outcomes, robotic surgery performance metrics, and quality improvement initiatives
• Other duties as assigned

3+ years relevant experience required

Previous experience conducting clinical and data-driven research utilizing institutional and national databases preferred

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings and programs.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.

This is a restricted position, which is dependent on funding and is contingent upon funding availability.

This position is based in Charlottesville, VA, and must be performed fully on-site.
