General description: The Claims and Legal Assistant will work with Piedmont Liability Trust’s litigation attorneys to defend covered persons in litigation and assist in maintaining the Trust’s claims operations.

• Draft notices and cover letters
• Assist with discovery
• Review and edit pleadings and other documents
• File pleadings in state and federal court
• Organize medical records
• Communicate with experts, court reporters, videographers, trial technicians, and others
• Prepare exhibits for depositions, briefs, hearings, and trials
• Manage Claims accounts payable
• Create monthly reports
• Prepare claims summaries
• Conduct jury verdict and settlement research

• Associate’s degree or higher
• Prior experience working in an office environment
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Demonstrated respect for confidentiality

• Paralegal certification
• Previous experience with medical malpractice litigation
• Previous experience in a clinical health care setting

Piedmont Liability Trust serves as legal counsel to University of Virginia Physicians Group and other Covered Clinicians of UVA Health for medical professional liability matters related to patient care.
