This position contributes to Sun Tan City’s success by leading a team to create and maintain the Sun Tan City Experience for our clients. The District Manager in Training regularly exercises discretion in managing the overall operation of the salon. The majority of time is spent supervising and directing the workforce, making staffing decisions (hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining, discharging, staffing and scheduling), ensuring client satisfaction and quality of client experience, monitoring and motivating staff to achieve performance goals, handling minor maintenance issues, ensuring the cleanliness of the salon, and managing safety and security within the salon.
The District Manager in Training is responsible for modeling and acting in accordance with Sun Tan City principles to deliver an exceptional client experience.
- Developing and coaching employees to provide amazing client experiences.
- Following up swiftly on client concerns and issues.
- Maintain a positive example and calm demeanor during high-volume periods.
- Uphold a client-comes-first attitude by holding team members accountable for quality client service.
- Drive company metrics by developing action plans and directly motivating and instructing the salon team through company programs.
- Model integrity and honesty and promote the culture, values, and mission of Sun Tan City.
- Plan, identify, communicate, and delegate responsibilities to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure cleanliness, maintenance, sanitation, and organization of the salon.
- Manage salon staffing to support employee development and operational needs.
- Adhere to applicable wage and hour laws for non-exempt team members and minors.
- Use operational tools to plan for and achieve operational excellence (labor guidelines, reports, cash management, inventory).
- Utilize financial reports to identify trends and address issues in salon performance.
- Conduct regular performance assessments, provide feedback, and set goals to improve sales performance.
- Manage ongoing sales.
- Work a 5-day, 40-hour workweek (minimum) with varying mid and/or closing shifts as required by supervisors based on business needs.
- Travel in market, sometimes up to 3-4 hours per day; travel to additional salon locations within the district may be required.
- Collaborate with District Manager to support operational functions at other salons within the district and region.
- College education preferred, but not required.
- Management and/or sales experience required.
- Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to manage effectively in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple situations simultaneously.
- Strong knowledge of client service techniques and operational practices.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational/planning skills.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor while understanding supervisory practices and procedures.
- Team-building skills; ability to prioritize and delegate.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Ability to bend at the waist to clean tanning equipment.
- Ability to lift or assist in lifting items and heavy boxes.
- Ability to bend down to pick up items from the floors and perform salon cleaning tasks (dusting, sweeping, mopping, scrubbing).
