The 20-bed Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU (TCV ICU) serves patients undergoing cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgical procedures such as CABG, valve replacement/repair, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation. Patients include those requiring re-do sternotomy, mini-sternotomy, TAVR, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, aortic aneurysm repair, and CABG/valve combinations. Nurses care for patients who may require various mechanical circulatory support devices and ECMO. Postoperatively, patients are cared for in the TCV ICU for a minimum of 24 hours or longer, as needed to wean ventilatory support and vasoactive infusions.
ResponsibilitiesUVA is seeking capable clinicians who focus on expanding knowledge and skills, providing effective direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. Responsibilities include managing care and implementing treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and other members of the health care team. The role includes seeking and providing feedback for improved clinical practice and assuming a beginning leadership role, with mentorship as part of this process.

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.
Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.
Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Physical DemandsJob requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; attention to detail and ability to write legibly; ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50 lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly
