Registered Nurse – PACU (Post‑Anesthesia Care Unit)
Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse for the PACU. This is a part‑time day shift position in Charlottesville, VA, with two 10‑hour shifts and required call. A sign‑on bonus of $7,500 is available for qualified candidates.
Registered Nursing Staff are responsible for observing and treating post‑operative patients from a variety of service lines, including radiology, endoscopy, general surgery, urology, complex GYN, neurosurgery, vascular/thoracic, and orthopedic surgery. The PACU is a 12‑bed unit with a 1 to 2 nursing‑to‑patient ratio.
Operating hours are 7:30 AM to 9:30 PM, Monday to Friday. Designated overnight and weekend call staff mitigate the call‑shift burden. One Friday overnight call shift occurs every 6 to 8 weeks, and per six‑week schedule, approximately six to eight evening call shifts from Monday–Thursday. Call shifts are assigned on the same day as scheduled day shifts. One 24‑hour holiday call shift is scheduled per year.
Call requirements may require occasional additional hours.
Experienced RNs can expect 6 to 12 weeks of orientation on the unit.

- Degree or diploma in Registered Nursing (required)
- Bachelor of Science Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science Nursing (MSN) preferred
- Registered Nursing license (required)
- ACLS required prior to completion of orientation
- PALS required prior to completion of orientation
- BLS required within 90 days of hire
- 1–2 years of RN experience
- Critical care or PACU experience in a hospital required
- Manages complex cases in fast‑paced environments
- Communication with patients and providers
