Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Stepdown unit position requiring VA or compact RN license, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certification, and 2 years of relevant experience.

Details
  • 12-bed Stepdown unit utilizing critical care and neuroscience principles at the intermediate level
  • Patient population includes neuro trauma, subarachnoid/intraventricular/intracerebral hemorrhage, ENT tumor resection with flap reconstruction, post-operative spine, and general neurological cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:3
  • Day shift, 3x12 hour shifts (7:00-19:00)
  • Schedule includes 36 or 48 hours every other week
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required, including 2 of 3 winter holidays
  • Must float within scope of practice per facility float policy
  • Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start)
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent relevant experience required
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Clinical skills should include management of neurological/psychiatric conditions, craniotomy, CVA, intracranial bleeds, lumbar drains, TBI, spinal cord injury, and related neuro stepdown care
  • Experience with IV therapy, arterial line management, PICC/peripheral line care, and blood product administration preferred
  • Respiratory care skills including BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oxygen administration, and tracheostomy care preferred
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and non-titrating cardiac/vasoactive drips required
  • Two professional references required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Provide intermediate-level critical care and neuroscience-focused nursing care to stepdown patients
  • Maximum of 40 hours of RTO approved per 13-week contract, must be disclosed at time of consideration
  • Any planned vacation between sign date and start date must be disclosed to allow for appropriate start date planning
  • Previous UVA Health employment as permanent staff or traveler requires 1-year separation and leadership approval
  • External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days with UVA Health
  • No radius or local candidate restriction applies to this unit
  • First-time travelers may be considered for this role
