Overview
The Jomaa Lab at the University of Virginia invites applications for a full-time Lab Specialist or Technician to support projects focused on understanding protein biogenesis at the molecular level. Our lab uses a combination of biochemistry, mammalian and yeast cell systems, and advanced structural biology techniques such as cryo-EM and cryo-ET.
Responsibilities- Maintaining and manipulating mammalian (e.g., HEK
293) and yeast cultures - Performing CRISPR-based knockouts/knock-ins
- Preparing samples for cryo-EM/cryo-ET workflows
- Routine molecular biology and protein biochemistry assays
- General lab organization and maintenance of research infrastructure
- Hands-on experience with molecular cloning, cell transfection, and tissue culture
- Yeast strain engineering and genetics
- Interest or experience in structural biology and computational tools is a plus but not required
This is an excellent opportunity for individuals considering graduate studies or long-term research careers in molecular biology and structural biology.
Minimum requirementsEducation: Bachelor s degree.
Experience: 3 years of experience. 6 years of lab-related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Licensure: None.
The position will remain open until filled. This is a non-exempt level, benefitted position. The University will perform background checks on all new hires prior to employment. A pre-employment health screening is required. This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.
