Overview
The University of Virginia Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks an experienced laboratory technician/specialist with expertise in investigation of new investigational therapies in small animal (murine) models.
ResponsibilitiesConduct in vivo drug studies in cancer xenograft mouse models (both subcutaneous and orthotopic), including intravenous and intraperitoneal drug injections, drawing blood for analytical studies, necropsy and tissue sampling, and sample preparation/analysis for downstream assays such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, Western blot, qPCR, and RNA‑seq. Assist with studies in other species (rats, dogs) and develop animal care protocols as needed. Investigate drug effects on cells in tissue culture and study mechanism of action in in vitro cancer models.
Preferably perform advanced molecular techniques such as CRISPR, gene expression studies, confocal microscopy, and other assays; lack of experience in these techniques is not disqualifying.
At least 2–3 years of laboratory experience, with direct experience in murine model studies. An undergraduate or master’s degree in biology or related fields is required. Strong communication skills and productive team collaboration are essential.
Physical DemandsExtensive periods of standing, squatting, bench work, animal procedures, and keyboarding requiring fine finger manipulation.
Benefits & CompensationSalary commensurate with education and experience. This is a non‑exempt, benefited position. The role is contingent on funding availability and is based in Charlottesville, VA with full on‑site work required.
