B. Carter Center for Immunology Research at the University of Virginia seek an outstanding physician-scientist with strong translational immunology program experience for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Candidates must be nationally recognized for excellence in translational immunology research, hold external funding, and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to mentoring and education. Rank, tenure status, and compensation are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The Carter Immunology Center is a nexus for basic and translational immunology research that bridges multiple departments at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine. This position provides a unique opportunity to build a highly collaborative, translational, and rigorous research program, using state-of-the-art resources available at the Carter Immunology Center, the School of Medicine, the Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the new Manning Institute of Biotechnology.  

The University of Virginia's Manning Institute of Biotechnology will play a broad role in the Commonwealth of Virginia by partnering with researchers in the UVA School of Medicine to develop novel therapeutics, facilitate drug discovery, and advance GMP manufacturing for clinical trials.

Highly competitive start-up packages and ample laboratory space are available for this recruitment. Candidates with expertise in translational immunology including autoimmunity and immunotherapy, tissue immunology and immunopathology, and systems immunology etc are highly encouraged to apply.

The candidate(s) will join our vibrant, highly interactive, and collegial research environment, which consists of 10 resident faculty and more than 60 additional member faculty in the Carter Immunology Center (CIC) ( https://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). ). Current areas of research among CIC members include cardiovascular immunology, cell-autonomous immunity, intracellular signaling and effector function of lymphocytes and phagocytes, antigen processing and presentation, immune responses to tumors, immunotherapy, allergy and autoimmunity, neuroimmunology, host-pathogen, and host-commensal microbial interactions.

Ample resources are available to support faculty careers within the CIC and the School of Medicine. These include exceptional research core facilities (  ), grants and administrative support, and faculty development programming (  ).

Future faculty will participate in the teaching and mentoring of graduate students and medical students in programs that are supported by ten NIH-sponsored training grants.
