Plumber, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Plumber, North Grounds – University of Virginia
Facilities Management's North Grounds Zone at the University of Virginia seeks an experienced plumber to maintain and repair all plumbing systems in the North Grounds Zone. The incumbent ensures all systems are operational, safe, and compliant with OSHA, BOCA, federal, state, and local regulations. Basic computer skills and the ability to read blueprints are required.
Duties- Replace and install plumbing and mechanical components.
- Perform preventive maintenance on all plumbing systems and update or repair when necessary.
- Conduct all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures.
- Respond to requests from the University community and address plumbing problems quickly and professionally.
- Inform customers of job status, reasons for, and duration of expected delays, and refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
- Ensure that all safety and personal protective equipment are used.
- Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special event setups, as assigned by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade.
- Journey or Master level plumber license.
- Valid driver’s license with zero or positive point balance and at least two years of driving experience.
- Backflow certification.
Hourly: $24.50 – $29.00 ($49,920 - $60,320 annually). Full‑time position with UVA benefits.
Physical DemandsEmployee must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). Must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas normal color vision and sense of smell.
