Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Junior Environmental Site Assessor to work with our Environmental Site Investigation and Remediation practice in our Charlottetown office. You will support environmental site investigation and remediation projects across Atlantic Canada, including a broad range of responsibilities related to Phase I, II, and III Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), multimedia sampling programs, remediation programs, environmental spill response, and hydrogeological investigations.

You will be part of a team that includes national experts who will mentor you closely as you grow your skills and career while working on a diverse collection of environmental projects. Your Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with and assist project managers and team members with environmental investigations and remediation projects based primarily in Atlantic Canada, with opportunities to work in other parts of Canada.

  • Assist in the preparation of health & safety plans, work plans, and other technical documents.

  • Assist with coordination, supervision and execution of environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, soil vapour), excavation of test pits, drilling of boreholes and installation of monitoring wells.

  • Compile and interpret analytical data with tables, figures, and graphs.

  • Draft Phase I/II/III ESA summary reports, environmental compliance documents, soil management plans, and remedial action/risk management plans.

  • Learn and follow standard operating procedures for work assigned, while continuing to develop skills.

  • Complete applicable company and client required health & safety training and follow health & safety policies and procedures.

  • Follow established standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to complete assignments.

  • This position is within a larger environmental services team and will likely require providing support to multiple Stantec offices.

  • Travel may be required. Occasionally work hours may be irregular and include some evening and weekend work shifts.

  • Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Energetic, team-oriented professional with a close attention to detail

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and communicate effectively with technical and management personnel remotely

  • Working knowledge of field sampling techniques is preferred

  • Willing and able to travel and periodically work extended hours (including up to 12-hour days and occasional weekends depending on project requirements) and work outdoors in inclement weather

  • Willingness to learn new skills, have flexibility in undertaking work assignments and capable of handling multiple assignments and shifting priorities.

  • Demonstrate initiative and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while keeping health and safety a priority

  • Proficient verbal and written English communication skills

  • Experience with MS Office software suite (Word, Excel, O365 Applications etc.)

  • Knowledge of relevant local provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies is an asset.

  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license to complete the required field assignments. Access to a vehicle is preferred.

  • Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, environmental science or related field

  • Previous co-op/internship in a role with related work experience

  • P.Geo. or P.Eng. registration or eligibility would be considered an asset for this position
