Your RoleThis role involves assessing the financial position and creditworthiness of surety clients (both new and existing) within the construction sector. The junior underwriter will support senior underwriters in the analysis, underwriting, and management of surety bond files, while progressively developing autonomy and technical expertise. The role also includes processing clients’ bond requests and making underwriting recommendations on assigned files.
What you bring to the position- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance or Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1 to 2 years of experience in surety or a related field
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
- Good planning and organizational abilities
- High level of autonomy, diligence, and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (French & English)
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment and meet deadlines
- Team-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency with standard office software (Excel, Word, PDF, etc.)
- Review and assess new surety bond submissions
- Manage a portfolio of existing accounts, including ongoing financial analysis and monitoring
- Analyze and approve contract bond requests in accordance with underwriting authority or file-specific limits
- Plan and participate in meetings with brokers and clients to discuss operations, financial performance, and bonding needs
- Meet with brokers to establish and maintain strong business relationships
- Conduct annual account reviews for the purpose of establishing or renewing bonding limits
- Perform other related duties as required
