Company Description

Somru Bio Science Inc. is an AI- and ML-driven bioanalytical CRO and CDMO redefining large molecule drug development with next-generation innovation. Powered by four proprietary platforms—Intelli.bTM, AmplattoTM, mAbYTM, and AegyrisTM—we deliver ultra-sensitive, GxP-compliant analytical solutions that reveal the deepest molecular insights. From attomolar-level immunoassay detection to advanced biosimilarity fingerprinting, Somru provides end-to-end bioanalytical, molecular, and cell-based method development to accelerate biodistribution, safety, efficacy, and immunogenicity studies.

With cutting-edge science and global partnerships, we help biopharma teams bring safer, smarter, and more consistent biologics and cell/gene therapeutics to market—faster than ever.

Project Description

This MSc position, jointly funded by Somru Bio Science and Mitacs at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), will focus on advancing an AI- and ML-enabled digital biomanufacturing platform. The student will integrate real-time Process Analytical Technology (PAT) data with high-dimensional analytical fingerprints to strengthen biosimilar process monitoring and control. Working with several analytical platforms—the student will develop predictive models, analyze critical quality attributes, and support data-driven strategies to improve product consistency, yield, and overall bioprocess efficiency.

Job Title:

AI & Bioprocessing Research MSc student

The student will work in a hybrid environment between Somru Bio Science (Charlottetown) and the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), collaborating closely with scientists, engineers, and academic supervisors.

Job Duties:
  • Collect, clean, and organize PAT data (pH, DO, nutrients, metabolites, cell density).
  • Integrate analytical datasets including CQAs, mass spectrometry, chromatography, and functional assays.
  • Perform feature engineering, normalization, and missing-data reconstruction.
  • Build supervised ML models to predict product yield, quality attributes, and biosimilarity outcomes.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, clustering, PCA, and model benchmarking.
  • Evaluate model performance using appropriate error and accuracy metrics.
  • Develop RL agents to simulate and control upstream bioprocess parameters.
  • Define reward functions based on yield, CQAs, and process stability.
  • Validate RL strategies in simulated environments before integration.
  • Assist in building a prototype platform linking real-time PAT data with ML/RL outputs.
  • Develop dashboards, visualization tools, and control-recommendation modules.
  • Ensure alignment with Somru’s analytical infrastructure and workflows.
  • Validate predictive and control models using historical and pilot-scale bioprocess runs.
  • Prepare technical reports, SOPs, documentation, and presentations.
  • Support training sessions and knowledge transfer to Somru teams.
Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning, statistics, and data analysis.
  • Experience with Python and ML libraries (scikit-learn, pandas, Num Py, Tensor Flow/PyTorch).
  • Understanding of bioprocessing is an asset (not required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn rapidly.
