About the Role

Well Fish Tech is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior R&D Scientist to lead assay development and innovation in aquatic health diagnostics. This role is central to advancing our scientific capabilities across salmon, trout, and tilapia health, integrating biochemistry, data analytics, and clinical interpretation to deliver actionable insights to producers and stakeholders.

You will oversee complex research projects, mentor junior scientists, and collaborate with international teams to develop and validate diagnostic assays that support fish health surveillance, biosecurity, and performance optimization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead development, validation, and optimization of biochemical and molecular assays for fish health diagnostics
  • Manage multi-phase R&D and commercial projects across Well Fish Tech (Canada, Scotland, and Norway) and global client sites
  • Design and execute experimental protocols, ensuring scientific rigor and regulatory compliance
  • Apply advanced statistical methods and machine learning tools to interpret diagnostic data
  • Integrate blood chemistry, pathogen surveillance, and performance metrics into clinical decision frameworks
  • Collaborate with data scientists and fish health experts to refine predictive models and dashboards
  • Communicate findings through technical reports, stakeholder presentations, and peer-reviewed publications
  • Support client engagement by translating complex data into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Represent Well Fish Tech at international conferences, workshops, and industry forums
Qualifications

Essential:

  • PhD or MSc in biochemistry, molecular biology, aquatic health, or related field
  • Experience in assay development and validation
  • Competence in proteomic techniques
  • Strong statistical and data visualization skills (e.g., R, Python, Power BI)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead research projects and cross‑functional teams
  • Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
  • Deep understanding of aquaculture systems and fish physiology
  • Familiarity with clinical interpretation of aquatic diagnostic results
  • Ability to travel nationally and internationally
