As a Deputy Sheriff in Carver County, you’ll enforce federal, state, and local laws; respond to emergencies; and proactively protect our communities. You’ll have the opportunity to work in suburban neighborhoods, rural townships, and everything in between
—giving you the unique chance to develop a broad range of experience.
$45.04 - $54.23/hour, depending on qualifications. Plus additional incentives and differentials noted below—potential to make up to an additional $5,000 annually!
Incentives & Premiums- Education Bonus
: +$0.40/hour with a Bachelor's Degree - Weekend Differential
: +$1.00/hour - Night Shift Differential
: +$1.25/hour - Investigator Pay Differential
: +$2.50/hour - Corporal Pay Differential
: +$1.50/hour - Field Training Officer (FTO) Pay
: +3 hours of premium pay per day for regular shift - Uniform Allowance
: $1000 allowance for uniform/equipment replacement after the first year of initial issuance

Application ProcessCandidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to interview. The current interview schedule is as follows:
- Apply by 1/19 – Interview on 1/28
- Apply by 1/26 – Interview on 2/4
- Apply by 2/2 – Interview on 2/11
- Apply by 2/9 – Interview on 2/18
- Patrols designated patrol areas.
- Writes reports, maintains law enforcement logs, case records, incident reports and other required reports.
- Responds to calls, civil and criminal complaints, disturbances, medicals, accidents or requests for emergency assistance.
- Assists and conducts investigative activities and tasks.
- Participates in task force work in various capacities.
- Testifies in court proceedings in an accurate and truthful manner.
- Requires ability to safely and lawfully possess all agency firearms.
- Associates Degree or two‑year Technical Certificate in Law Enforcement or related field
- MN POST Licensed or POST Eligible by date of appointment – must submit POST eligibility letter prior to background check
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment
All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. Candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Top candidates successfully passing the oral interview(s) will be sent to the background process. Conditional offers will be made to those candidates successfully passing the background, with the number of offers being proportionate to the number of vacancies.
Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, CJIS background investigation, psychological evaluation, and pre-placement physical.
