Billing Clerk

Description

We are looking for a detail-focused Billing Clerk to support billing operations for a construction and contractor environment in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This Contract position is ideal for someone who can evaluate financial information carefully, manage multiple priorities, and work effectively both independently and with cross-functional partners. The person in this role will help resolve billing issues, respond to customer and payment-related exceptions, and contribute to accurate invoicing and accounts receivable activities.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and process invoices accurately while supporting day-to-day billing activities and related customer account needs.

- Review billing discrepancies and payment exceptions, investigate underlying issues, and take appropriate action to correct account records.

- Partner with analysts and other team members to research interface-related billing problems and help ensure payments are applied correctly.

- Examine policy, pricing, and account health exceptions to determine proper resolution and complete required updates in the appropriate systems.

- Monitor declined card activity, sort issues by next steps, and support follow-up actions needed to address outstanding payment problems.

- Research chargeback cases and submit prompt, well-documented responses to financial institutions within required timelines.

- Assist with account cancellations, delinquency follow-up, and customer service requests related to billing and payment activity.

- Maintain productive vendor relationships and support adherence to established billing practices, controls, and industry expectations.

- Identify process improvement opportunities that can increase efficiency, reduce recurring errors, and strengthen billing accuracy.

- Communicate progress, findings, and issue status clearly to internal stakeholders to support timely resolution of open items.

Requirements

- Experience with billing functions, invoicing, and accounts receivable processes.

- Working knowledge of billing systems and the ability to navigate financial records accurately.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for reviewing data, organizing information, and supporting analysis.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate discrepancies and determine next steps.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

- Effective written and verbal communication skills for handling customer, vendor, and internal billing matters.

- Familiarity with collections, billing statements, and payment exception handling is preferred.
