Position SummaryThis is a full‑time, 12‑month faculty position. Responsibilities include instruction, course and curriculum development, professional development, service to students, and service to the college and community. The faculty member will facilitate classroom instruction, evaluate and monitor student progress, assign grades, provide academic support, maintain attendance and grade records, advise students on academic and career goals, support student retention efforts, and maintain required classroom and office hours.
EssentialFunctions
- Instruction:
Facilitate classroom instruction, evaluate students, monitor progress, assign final grades, maintain attendance and grade records, counsel and advise students on academic preparation and career goals, and work to retain students in the program. - Manage and maintain a site on the college's Learning Management System (eLearn) platform where class documents are stored and available for students to access anytime.
- Develop and maintain the program curriculum; maintain an active advisory committee that meets twice a year and covers industry and program needs.
- Professional Growth:
Remain current within assigned instruction, related occupational areas, and technologies; acquire, maintain, and apply knowledge of current instructional methodologies and materials; attend scheduled college, divisional, professional development, and in‑service activities; and participate in the annual faculty evaluation process. - Service to Students:
Assist program graduates with employment opportunities.
- Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom, including Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, TCAT Student Services, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services.
- Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility.
- Provides student‑ and community‑focused support in the Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) Division that aligns with the College’s core values.
- Supports the College’s commitment to creating a welcoming and respectful environment and contributes to the TCAT Division’s efforts to implement effective and thoughtful practices.
- Offers responsive and consistent services and support for students, faculty, and staff.
- Demonstrate teaching excellence by using evidence‑based instructional practices that foster student learning.
- Adapt tests and refine new pedagogical approaches that fit Chattanooga State's campus context.
- Structure student experiences to ensure accessibility and relevance in academic, student life, and co‑curricular activities.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in the Welding Service Industry, and a graduate of a one‑year diploma program or four years’ experience as a Welding technician.
- Evidence of ability to teach students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to remain current in the welding industry.
- Basic Computer Skills.
- Associate or bachelor's Degree.
- Certified Welding Educator (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- Prior teaching experience.
- Computer Skills with Microsoft products.
- Mines a comprehensive knowledge of the welding industry.
- Exhibits a commitment to promoting academic excellence in students.
- Demonstrates a high level of self‑discipline and self‑motivation.
- Exudes a positive, supportive, and cooperative disposition toward others.
- Demonstrates punctuality and is detail‑oriented with a demonstrated ability to perform assigned tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences in verbal and written form.
Salary commensurate with experience and according to the salary guidelines of the Tennessee Board of Regents.
- Instructor: $55,439 - $66,527
- Associate Instructor: $50,894 - $61,074
