Shimmick is seeking a highly talented Field Engineer to be based out of Chattanooga, TN

Shimmick takes on challenging projects and performs high‑quality work ranging from expanding/constructing water and wastewater treatment plants to the construction of the new Gerald Desmond Bridge.

- Led by industry veterans with 20+ years of experience
- Solid foundation: client relationships, financial stability, and market leadership
- Displays knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications.
- Prepare, assemble, and disseminate contract submittals, work plans, and related documents.
- Inspections and reporting for concrete pre-, during-, and post‑placement; reinforcement installation; formwork installations.
- Contract document and submittal interpretation / write RFI's.
- Assist with rigging / lift plans, weight estimates, center of gravity calculations as required.
- Estimates and quantity takeoffs.
- Procurement process including preparation, quotes, and monitoring delivery.
- Review and redline contract and shop drawings.
- Coordinate with survey to assist with layouts and tolerance checks.
- Under general supervision, performs routine duties.
- Displays applications of sound professional judgment on details of work.
- Independently performs walk‑downs and inspections of installed commodities to assure conformance with specifications and design.
- Performs quantity surveys for tracking and reporting.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Mechanical Engineering experience preferred.
- Heavy Civil construction and field experience.
- AutoCAD 3D drafting/modeling experience.
- Ability to interpret and pass on the requirements for concrete placing, reinforcement installation, and form work fabrication and setting.
- Ability to independently interpret contract documents, design drawings and specifications.
- Experience in scheduling, sequencing, procurement, material take offs, inventories, and cost estimates.
- Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.

The salary range for this position is between $100,000 – $110,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
