Overview

At Jacobs, we transform abstract ideas into innovative solutions that shape the future. The Senior Telecommunications Engineer works on projects assigned by a Department Manager or Lead Engineer, contributing to the entire design process—including preliminary assessments, concept creation, internal and external problem resolution, drawing and specification production, and customer and vendor accessibility. The role also serves as the EoR for designs, provides coverage for project leads, and may lead projects depending on bandwidth.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical design leadership for structured cabling, wireless, audio visual, and low‑voltage systems in data center buildings.
  • Lead BIM designers in preparing engineering drawings.
  • Create or modify DIV 27 specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and review technical documents.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
  • Mentor team members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Communications Engineering from an ABET‑accredited college.
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience actively designing or leading designs for telecommunications structured cabling systems.
  • Proficiency with Bluebeam, RFP response, and quality assurance of designed systems.
  • Experience with startup, commissioning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk mitigation of telecommunications projects.
  • PE license with the ability to obtain multiple licenses.
Preferred Experience
  • 4 years of telecommunications design experience in data centers.
  • Experience with low‑voltage systems (security, audio/visual, wireless).
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks design software.
  • Knowledge of CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
  • Credential as an RCDD.
