Assistant Press Operator - Flexo Web - Day Shift (3 Day/12 Hour)

Primary Responsibility

The main responsibility of the Assistant Operator is to work jointly with both the lead operator and the second press operator in the operation of the press for efficient utilization of the press. The primary responsibility includes offloading printing roll stocks and requesting stock for the next job.

Secondary Responsibilities

• Directly responsible for the operation of the rewind stand (front end of the machine).
• When unloading the printed roll, pull a sample and check print quality against the approved sample.
• Ensure that there are plenty of clean cores available for new splices when the press begins running.
• Responsible for setting the board edge guides for the correct width of board to be run, including the edge guide going to the drum as well as the one leading into the re‑wind stand.
• Keep rolls mounted during the run as well as setting up the automatic butt splice to ensure that the press continues to run uninterrupted.
• Assist with daily maintenance as directed.
• Clean anilox rolls as they are removed from the press before placing them in the cart.
• Adjust to and follow new procedures and innovations that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
• Effectively utilize downtime (not including approved breaks) by assisting with set‑up or performing other tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor.
• Communicate with other team members.
• Wear appropriate PPE for the task and the area.
• Welcome updates and improvements to processes and follow new procedures and innovations that would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation.
• Perform work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum.
• Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems.
• Follow all safety‑related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions.
• May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Authority

The operator must have the ability to perform second press operator duties when needed to execute the demands of the printing operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from his/her supervisor and other written instructions.

Qualifications

• Education and/or
  
  Experience:
  
  High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Must have mechanical ability and skills.

  Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc., and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.

Day Shift (3 Day/12 Hour): 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST
