Job SummaryA registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Health System is responsible for practicing nursing according to the state’s Nurse Practice Act, Erlanger’s Models of Care/Practice, policies, and procedures. The nurse delivers patient care as assigned and supervises other qualified staff to whom patient care is delegated, exercising independent judgment. The nurse addresses physical, spiritual, emotional, and educational needs of the patient and coordinates the plan of care with other healthcare professionals.
The nurse participates in and completes all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all duties in accordance with Erlanger Health System’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- De‑escalation training/certification (e.g., MOAB) within 6 months and maintenance yearly thereafter.
- Preferred:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- None required; preferred:
Prior experience delivering patient care in a similar setting.
- Current licensure privileges to practice nursing in the state of employment.
- BLS completed prior to unit placement and maintained thereafter.
- NRP and Stable certification within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter.
- Certification in maternal newborn nursing or women’s health field preferred, expected within 1 year of eligibility.
- Utilizes hand‑off communication and bedside shift report.
- Maintains a safe therapeutic environment, complying with hospital policies and identifying risks to patient safety.
- Performs comprehensive assessments and responds appropriately to abnormal diagnostic data.
- Anticipates emergencies and intervenes safely, seeking assistance when needed.
- Develops relationships with patients/families for mutual care planning.
- Demonstrates basic critical‑thinking skills.
- Documents concisely, accurately, and completely, adhering to regulatory requirements.
- Completes mandatory education competencies as defined by unit scope.
- Provides culturally competent care.
- Demonstrates awareness of evidence‑based practice.
- Manages time effectively and meets punctuality expectations.
- Shows flexibility to support staffing needs.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team, seeking assistance for conflict resolution.
- Implements the plan of care and identifies resources to meet patient needs.
- Communicates changes in patient conditions that may impact unit staffing or safety.
- Contributes to a healthy work environment with professional behavior.
- Completes education and mandatory programs in hospital and unit.
- Demonstrates knowledge of unit performance improvement outcomes.
- Updates individual matrix with accomplishments.
