Job Summary and Qualifications

The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse is responsible for staffing and Imaging RN daily assignments. Utilizes therapeutic communication in daily practice. Maintains a safe therapeutic environment. Identifies nursing problems as they relate to the individual needs of the patient. Plans individualized patient care utilizing an interdisciplinary approach.

Participates in performance improvement activities. Provides care and coordinates participation that fosters the goals of the hospital’s mission and vision statement.

When acting in an Interventional Radiology Nurse role, registered nurses are responsible for day-to-day activities to ensure the delivery of quality patient care in a diagnostic/therapeutic environment. Serve as role models and clinical resource for the staff. Respond in a timely manner to requests for information or follow up with director/manager, physician, staff or patient issues.

What you will do in this role:
  • Operates all department equipment safely and properly.

  • Practices radiation safety to self, patient and co-workers.

  • Demonstrates the ability to perform contrast media administration according to age/weight specific guidelines.

  • Follows proper procedures for quality controls related to equipment and accessories.

  • Demonstrates ability to set up sterile trays and maintain sterile field, according to hospital protocol

  • Scrubs and assists interventional physician during interventional procedures.

  • Circulate when not scrubbed in.

  • Schedule outpatient procedures. Coordinates with OP scheduling department

  • Participates in the holiday and on call work schedule.

  • Follows department protocols for communicating with patients, doctors and coworkers.

  • Transportation of patients to and from the radiology dept safely.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of drugs, their actions, side effects and contraindications for administration.

  • Demonstrates proper documentation concerning patient’s history, including lab values prior to contrast administration.

  • Exhibits the ability to start and maintain IV access.

  • Accurately follows physician orders, documents completion of exam in Meditech, Mac Lab and OR module..

  • Manages supplies in a cost-effective manner (e.g. supply scanning, crediting supplies not used, overuse of supplies, etc).

  • Takes action that goes beyond job requirement to meet patient/customer/department needs

What qualifications you will need:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

  • PALS Pediatric Adv Life Supt must be obtained within 6 months of employment start date

  • Registered Nurse

  • Associate Degree

  • 1-2 years of ICU, ER or surgery experience REQUIRED!
