Job Summary and Qualifications

The Interventional Radiology Registered Nurse performs direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act. Responsibilities include staffing and Imaging RN daily assignments, utilizing therapeutic communication, maintaining a safe therapeutic environment, identifying nursing problems, planning individualized patient care with an interdisciplinary approach, and participating in performance improvement activities. The RN coordinates care that fosters the hospital’s mission and vision, acting as a role model and clinical resource for the staff while responding timely to information requests.

What

You Will Do In This Role
  • Operate all department equipment safely and properly.
  • Practice radiation safety for self, patient, and co‑workers.
  • Perform contrast media administration according to age/weight specific guidelines.
  • Follow proper procedures for quality controls related to equipment and accessories.
  • Set up sterile trays and maintain sterile field according to hospital protocol.
  • Scrub and assist interventional physician during procedures.
  • Circulate when not scrubbed in.
  • Schedule outpatient procedures and coordinate with OP scheduling department.
  • Participate in the holiday and on‑call work schedule.
  • Communicate with patients, doctors, and coworkers following department protocols.
  • Transport patients to and from the radiology department safely.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of drugs, their actions, side effects, and contraindications for administration.
  • Document patient history and lab values prior to contrast administration.
  • Start and maintain IV access.
  • Accurately follow physician orders and document completion of exams in Meditech, Mac Lab, and OR module.
  • Manage supplies cost‑effectively (e.g., supply scanning, crediting unused supplies, reducing overuse).
  • Take action beyond job requirement to meet patient, customer, and department needs.
What Qualifications You Will Need
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of employment start date.
  • PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support within 6 months of employment start date.
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Associate Degree.
  • 1–2 years of ICU, ER or surgery experience (required).
