Position Summary

The Security Guard 1 position reports to the campus Chief of Police and provides general security functions that ensure a safe and healthy learning and working environment for all constituents of the College. The Security Guard monitors physical spaces, persons, and traffic to detect, prevent, report, and respond appropriately, supporting the goals and objectives of the College’s strategic plan.

Essential Functions Holistic Student Support
  • Demonstrate care for the well‑being of students through supportive services by providing a caring and helpful attitude.
  • Monitor campus activities; observe and report suspicious activities; interact with persons on campus; prepare reports on accidents or injuries; provide vehicle assistance.
  • Escort or drive a golf cart to transport individuals.
  • Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid or obtaining assistance from paramedics.
  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, or employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Answer telephone calls during non‑business hours or when the switchboard is closed.
  • Warn persons of rule infractions or violations and, when necessary, apprehend or evict violators using force.
  • Call police or fire departments in emergencies such as fire or unauthorized persons.
Teaching Excellence
  • Ensure a safe learning environment by monitoring all buildings, rooms, and lots for suspicious activity.
  • Provide on‑call assistance to faculty and students with security needs during class meetings.
  • Lock or unlock buildings and rooms.
Organizational Culture
  • Support the College’s commitment to a welcoming and respectful environment.
  • Promote, support, and participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment damage, theft, or unauthorized persons.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Monitor and authorize entry and departure of employees and visitors to guard against theft.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Program Innovation and Fiscal Stewardship
  • Monitor and manage resources to avoid waste.
  • Serve as a resource for continuous improvement ideas.
  • Monitor campus traffic; direct and control traffic, patrol parking areas, issue tickets, and prepare accident reports.
  • Inspect and adjust security systems and equipment.
  • Adjust controls that regulate building systems.
  • Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent prohibited articles.
  • Patrol premises to prevent intrusion and secure doors, windows, and gates.
  • Lock doors and gates of entrances and exits.

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED;
    Tennessee Department of Commerce Private Protective Services License – Unarmed Security Guard.
  • One year of security work experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
Salary Range

$32,268 – $37,915
