Job SummaryThe KEMRON Heavy Equipment Operator reports to an onsite Project Manager and safely operates a variety of equipment utilized in the construction of roads, highways, parking lots, etc. This may include operating heavy equipment such as cranes, clamshells, power shovels, motor graders, heavy loaders, carryalls, bulldozers, rollers, scrapers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments. Equipment is used to excavate, load, or move dirt, gravel, or other materials, as well as clearing and grubbing to complete remediation of sites and excavation of contaminated soil consistent with standard environmental procedures, loading trucks proficiently.
Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make emergency repairs to equipment.
- Operate multiple types of heavy equipment of various sizes and weights able to establish required grades and cuts within acceptable tolerances.
- Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in all job orientation and training.
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to supervisor, as well as to clean equipment.
- Assist in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices. Control traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
- Assist as laborers and/or technicians as requested by supervisors and foreman to expedite work as needed and aid personnel to operate the site in a safe manner.
- Pass training in shoring and sloping as required by OSHA, safety requirements, KEMRON SOPs and Military safety requirements.
- Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Project Manager, Foreman, Health & Safety Officer, Corporate Health & Safety Director or HR Manager.
- Requires five (5) years of experience in operating heavy equipment, two (2) of which must be related to environmental construction.
- Must possess valid and appropriate state driver's license with no serious violations within the three years prior to employment and have good driving history approved by KEMRON's insurance carrier that qualifies employees to drive company vehicles.
- Must have sufficient education to make appropriate arithmetic equations and complete written documentation; or an equivalent combination of experience, education and training that provides the desired knowledge, skills and characteristics for the position.
- FEMA 100 200, 700 and 800 IC training, as required on worksite.
- Considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles.
- Ability to drive and operate heavy equipment under varying working conditions.
- Working knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in environmental remediation and construction work.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- 40-hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operator (HAZWOPER) training.
- Current 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher training.
- Current CDL.
- Certified first aid and CPR training.
- Sloping and shoring training.
- Equipment Operator Safety Training.
- Primary residence located within 50 miles of project site.
- Good eyesight and excellent coordination to operate both hand and foot levers simultaneously.
- Apply good judgment to safely and correctly follow steps necessary to perform complicated tasks.
- Work closely, safely, and respectfully with other employees/positions on site without continuous supervision.
- Ability to remain constantly alert and observant of surroundings.
- Regularly perform tasks in outside weather conditions, including rain, extreme heat, wet and/or humidity.
- Perform safely while exposed to vibration, dust, asphalt, and/or hazardous material.
