Role Overview :

We’re looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, with an initial focus on supporting the growth and delivery of our new Tarmac division across the Essex/Suffolk area. This is a great opportunity to become involved in an expanding area of the business from an early stage, providing commercial support to our senior surveying team and helping ensure works are effectively procured, managed and delivered to budget, programme and the highest quality standards.

As the role develops, there will also be opportunities to gain wider experience across our established Groundworks and RC Frame divisions, providing excellent exposure to a broad range of projects and a strong platform for long-term career development within the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing cost forecasts, valuations, and tender submissions.
  • Conduct accurate site measurements and maintain proper records.
  • Support in managing subcontractor procurement, payments, and final account agreements.
  • Monitor project budgets, variations, and monthly cost reports.
  • Prepare and submit interim applications for payment and follow up on timely receipt.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications to support change management and cost assessments.
  • Develop a working knowledge of contract law and project obligations.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams, clients, and suppliers to ensure smooth project delivery.

Experience / skills required:
  • A strong interest in construction and an eagerness to develop your career in quantity surveying.
  • Experience in a similar role or relevant academic qualification.
  • Excellent numerical, analytical, and communication skills.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented, and team-focused attitude.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Qualifications
  • GCSE level or equivalent qualification in English and Mathematics
  • Study of construction related qualification preferable
  • Appropriate and valid CSCS card
  • Valid driving licence
