Job Summary

Are you a dedicated Stroke Physician looking to make a significant impact on patient care? Our Broomfield Hospital site is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Consultant Stroke Physician to join our consultant team on a substantive basis. This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of a forward‑thinking department committed to excellence in acute and rehabilitation stroke and TIA services.

  • Provide expert care and management for patients presenting with stroke and TIA.
  • Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver personalized treatment plans.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of stroke services, aligning with regional care quality standards.
  • Support community rehabilitation initiatives, ensuring seamless care transitions from hospital to home.
Main Duties of the Job

The components of the service which the successful applicant will help to provide are:

  • Comprehensive stroke thrombolysis service and best‑endeavour stroke thrombectomy service.
  • Rapid Assessment Clinic for TIA/minor stroke patients held five days a week, seeing 20‑25 suspected new stroke/TIA patients per week, with an additional service for high‑risk TIA patients on weekends and bank holidays. The seven‑day service includes same‑day CT or MRI scan and carotid Doppler. We currently achieve performance targets for high‑risk and low‑risk patients and are looking to adapt this service according to the latest RCP guidelines.
  • 9.00 am consultant‑led multidisciplinary ward round for all new suspected stroke/TIA admissions and a daily review of all other patients on the Stroke Unit, 7 days a week.
  • Multidisciplinary rehabilitation of stroke patients on the ward, including meetings with relatives.
  • Weekly outpatient clinics providing new referrals and medical follow‑up for recently discharged stroke patients and others.
  • Strong links with diagnostic imaging, vascular surgery, cardiology and neurology.
  • Ongoing educational programme for all disciplines within the department and lectures to GPs and other interested groups.

Person Specification Essential Qualifications
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register
  • Evidence of completion of specialist training or equivalent
Essential Experience
  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty.
  • Work history demonstrates ability to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
Desirable
  • Knowledge and experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff
Essential Skills
  • Excellent written communication skills demonstrated through application form
