General Consultant - Anaesthetics

Our Theatre and Anaesthetics Department are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our Broomfield Hospital team on a permanent full time basis.
You will work collaboratively with your fellow Consultants to provide a modern and comprehensive Anaesthetic, Pain and Perioperative Medicine service to our patients.

If successful, some of your duties will include:
- Covering for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences. Undertaking professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
- Carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and for contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, both locally and nationally.
- Participating in medical audit, and the Trust's Clinical Governance processes. There is a monthly departmental directorate meeting that occurs on Audit Days that consultants and speciality doctors are expected to attend.
- Liaising with medical staff in other specialties and participating in regular clinical meetings and other postgraduate activities of the hospital.
- Taking part in the Royal College of Anaesthetists continuing medical education programme.

Person Specification Qualifications- GMC registered / MBBS or equivalent
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
- Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems.
- Application demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
- Work history or supporting information demonstrates experience of taking full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision.
- Demonstrable experience of supervising undergraduates, junior doctors and other staff
- Experience and training in major elective surgery.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
