This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate, or graduate with up to two years' relevant experience, to take the first step on a rewarding career path within the global subsea cable industry. Joining OceanIQ as a Graduate Route Engineer on a 12-month fixed-term contract with an immediate start, you will gain hands‑on experience working on industry‑leading subsea power and telecommunications cable projects that help connect countries, communities and businesses around the world.
As part of the Global Marine Group, OceanIQ is a specialist provider of route engineering, permitting, survey and GIS data services, offering the opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals and develop highly sought‑after technical skills.
This is a Route Engineering role rather than a dedicated GIS position, with the primary focus on the design and assessment of future subsea and power cable routes. Using GIS technology, marine survey data and specialist engineering tools, you will help identify and mitigate routing risks, contribute to technical design studies, and develop an understanding of the environmental and engineering challenges involved in delivering critical subsea infrastructure.
Supported by structured training and ongoing development, this role offers an excellent foundation for graduates looking to build specialist expertise, progress their career and unlock future opportunities within a growing international business.
As part of this role, you will have opportunities to visit project sites and work with colleagues and clients internationally. Therefore, candidates must be comfortable with occasional international travel and hold a full driving licence.

- Use GIS systems to prepare and manage project data for desk top studies, route development and landfall assessments.
- Review marine survey data to support cable routeing, burial assessment and risk identification.

Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Degree in a relevant subject such as Geography, Geomatics, Marine Engineering, Oceanography or a related discipline.
- Experience of using GIS software, such as Intergraph Geo Media, ESRI or equivalent.

- Keen to learn new skills and develop specialist knowledge within route engineering and the subsea cable industry.
- Strong attention to detail, with a logical and analytical approach.
- Previous exposure to marine survey data or the offshore environment.
- An interest in subsea cable routeing, marine operations or offshore infrastructure.
- Ideally hold a valid UK driving licence, or be working towards obtaining one.
