We’re working with a leading UK Top 50 accountancy practice to recruit an ambitious Partner Designate for their Chelmsford office. Following an exciting period of growth through both acquisitions and organic expansion, this forward-thinking firm has united several like-minded practices under one brand – combining over 300 years of heritage with a modern, tech-enabled approach to accountancy, tax, and business advisory.

This is a senior leadership role offering the chance to influence strategic direction, manage a high-value portfolio, and play a pivotal part in shaping the future of the practice.

As Partner Designate, you’ll oversee a significant client portfolio, providing strategic financial, tax, and operational advice to a broad range of clients – from SMEs to larger, complex organisations.

This is a client-facing, commercially focused leadership position that blends technical excellence with business development, people leadership, and operational strategy.

Role Responsibilities

  • Leading service delivery for complex or high-value clients, ensuring deadlines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met
  • Acting as a strategic advisor, offering proactive guidance on financial, regulatory, and operational matters
  • Developing and maintaining long-term client relationships, identifying opportunities for additional support and advisory services
  • Mentoring and developing senior managers and managers, ensuring strong engagement, performance, and succession planning
  • Overseeing technical work, ensuring compliance with UK GAAP (FRS 102), tax legislation, and internal quality standards
  • Contributing to business development through networking, client referrals, proposals, and tenders
  • Driving operational efficiency and supporting firm-wide improvement initiatives
  • Managing budgets, recovery rates, and commercial performance within your portfolio

Candidate Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified with at least five years of post-qualification experience in practice
  • Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients with confidence and commercial awareness
  • Strong technical skills across accounts, tax and business advisory
  • A track record of leading teams and developing junior staff
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a client-focused approach
  • Ambition to progress to full partnership and contribute to the long-term growth of the firm
