Explore opportunities at Atrius Health, part of the Optum family of businesses. We're an innovative health care leader and multi-specialty group practice, delivering an effective, connected system of care for adult and pediatric patients at 28 practice locations in eastern Massachusetts. Our entire team of providers (physicians, AP/NPs and ancillary clinicians) works collaboratively with a value-based philosophy within our group practice as well as with hospitals, rehab and nursing facilities.

Be part of our vision to transform care and improve lives by building trust, understanding and shared decision-making with every patient. Join us and discover the meaning behind Caring. Connecting. Growing together.

The program provides in-depth training in time-effective therapy within the context of an integrative primary and multi-specialty medical group. Fellows practice and receive supervision at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA), a non-profit, multi-specialty medical group practice that provides health care to 740,000 adult and pediatric patients at 34 offices in eastern Massachusetts. All fellows provide Behavioral Health care to a caseload of general psychotherapy patients, and will also elect a subspecialty focus in Trauma, Eating Disorders, Addictions, or Women's Mental Health.

A weekly seminar at the DPM supports the learning in the clinical placement and promotes cohesion and shared experiences among the fellows.

Primary Responsibilities:

The fellowship includes three training components: general and subspecialty-area psychotherapy skill development; subspecialty research and program development; and teaching / consultation-liaison experience. The major tasks, duties and responsibilities of the job.

  • Psychotherapy skill development
    • Skills for the practice of effective, time-limited therapy in an integrative Behavioral Health context will be developed through weekly didactic seminars and individual / group supervision. Fellows attend seminars that feature presentations by and consultation with experienced behavioral health clinicians with expertise in a wide variety of clinical areas. The seminar also offers consultation on clinical cases, on practice management, and on administrative issues relevant to contemporary behavioral health practice.
    • Fellows will also complete rotations in which they will receive intensive training in modalities of time-limited therapy (for example, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Motivational Interviewing; and Trauma-Informed Care) taught by expert trainers. Upon completion of this training, fellows will participate in ongoing supervision and consultation to allow them to refine their tools and skills in each modality
    • The third component of fellowship training is focused upon the development of clinical expertise in the four subspecialty areas within the Department of Behavioral Health at HVMA:
      Trauma, Eating Disorders, Addictions, and Women's Mental Health. Led by content-area experts and programming leaders, the seminars will complement the general clinical skill development by providing in-depth knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented by providing care for these diagnoses and patients in a medical setting. All fellows will receive training in each subspecialty area
  • Research / Program Development in Subspecialty Area
    • Each fellow will select an area of subspecialty interest and will be assigned to a faculty mentor. The fellow will collaborate with their mentor to develop, implement, and evaluate a project that addresses the needs of the subpopulation of Behavioral Health patients or the clinicians who care for them within the subspecialty area. Examples of projects include development of group protocol;

      identification of best practices for clinical care and creation of curricula based on these practices; analyses of outcome data for current patients; and creation of in-service programming for medical and nursing providers
  • Teaching in the Subspecialty Area
    • Under the guidance of their faculty mentor, fellows will develop and facilitate training in their identified subspecialty area. This might include…
