Job DescriptionThe Chelmsford Public Schools is now accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher (ASD) position at Harrington Elementary School. The role focuses on working with elementary‑school students who have Autism and require ABA methodology instruction. Services are delivered in a substantially separate setting with a severe DESE license. The teacher serves as a liaison, collaborating with the BCBA, related service providers, and general education teachers.
The position requires strong communication with parents and outside providers, developing and implementing behavior support plans, applying ABA and social thinking curricula, and providing specialized instruction based on each student’s Individual Education Plan.
- Design, supervise, and implement students’ IEP plans.
- Develop curriculum modifications and adaptations, providing training/consultation to ensure implementation in the general education classroom.
- Create and design schedule, routines, and transitions that promote development and learning.
- Maintain individual curriculum binders for students using the ACE specialized curriculum.
- Participate in and facilitate IEP team meetings.
- Write effective IEPs and write quarterly progress reports based on student data analysis.
- Work collaboratively with a team of professionals to coordinate services.
- Undertake diagnostic testing to identify student capabilities and recognize progress on a timely basis.
- Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate meaningful inclusion for individual students.
- Administer diagnostic achievement assessments as part of the reevaluation process.
- Write effective evaluation reports summarizing findings and making recommendations for assigned students.
- Oversee scheduling of staff and students and manage support staff.

Job Requirements- Hold a Master’s degree in special education from an accredited college or university.
- Possess a MA DESE Teaching License – Severe Disabilities license is required.
- Have strong knowledge of the principles of ABA.
- Have experience working with students with Autism.
- Be able to manage and support multiple ABA para‑educators to establish effective programming.
- Have experience working with the ACE Curriculum (preferred).
- Consistently implement behavior support plans.
- Have experience modifying and adapting curriculum to ensure students can access the curriculum.
- Consult and work collaboratively with various service providers and support staff.
- Possess solid organizational skills.
- Have experience with IEP development (required).
- Have a solid understanding of the IEP process, state and federal regulations.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa is required.
