This is a seasonal, non‑benefited position running July 7 – August 8. The program hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; candidates must be able to work morning and afternoon shifts. We are looking for a part‑time STEM Instructor to take a leadership role during the full‑day summer program.
Job Goal:
To assist in providing an enriching, exciting, and fun summer experience to the children enrolled in our Chelmsford Community Education Summer Programs, ensuring all participants have a memorable time during any activities provided.
Applicants should be willing to meet with the Summerfest Supervisor prior to summer to develop a basic fun and educational theme‑based plan with a focus on their area of activities. During the summer, candidates must implement plans and adapt planned activities based on the children’s age, abilities, and interest level. They must inform supervisors of damaged or needed equipment, help oversee supportive staff members, offer positive reinforcement, maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor, and perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Maintain STEM equipment and store it in a designated area (iPads, coding kits, LEGO, etc.).
- Oversee and facilitate the inventory and ordering of all equipment.
- Develop and implement age‑appropriate STEM activities that incorporate basic science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.
- Stay educated on current STEM materials or demonstrate willingness to learn about new related materials (e.g., software, robotics).
- Work with supervisors to select software programs for iPads and ensure appropriate usage controls.
- Coordinate activities with other area leaders and maintain accurate inventories.
- Provide a minimum of 4 hours of pre‑planning before Summerfest opens.
- Flexible to work morning or afternoon shifts, including at least 4 Monday‑Friday part‑time weeks out of the 5 weeks of operation; additional hours may be available for planning, setup, and breakdown.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Early childhood or elementary education background or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge and comfort with a variety of STEM products (e.g., iPad, robotics).
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
