WSP is currently initiating a search for an Associate Environmental Chemist to work out of either our Merrimack, NH or Chelmsford, MA offices.

Key responsibilities include providing local technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compilation of observational and spatial data concerning a variety of biological, physical, and earth sciences. You will develop processes and infrastructure related to water supply, air emission, pollution control, cultural impact, and preserving environmental quality by identifying, controlling, and preventing disruption to environmental systems and species caused by human activity.

Your work will generate accurate and concise documentation, ensuring responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Responsibilities
  • Validate environmental analytical data in accordance with USEPA, regional, and state-specific validation guidelines to ensure data quality objectives are met.
  • Prepare data validation narratives and data usability reports.
  • Coordinate environmental laboratory services and field sampling events.
  • Work with laboratories to ensure data meets client requirements and project data quality objectives.
  • Manage and report environmental analytical data and geo-environmental data through multiple software platforms.
  • Under general supervision, collect and compile chemical and environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for scientific analysis of chemical contamination.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
  • Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur in all seasonal weather conditions, using equipment (with an ability to lift approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g., Outlook, Excel) with advanced‑level Excel skills.
  • Strong self‑leadership, attention to detail, multi‑tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to comply with WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Prior experience, including internships, strongly desired.
  • Active membership or participation in local professional practice organizations.
  • Experience writing analytical SOPs, QAPPs, FSPs, and other quality management documents.
  • Basic knowledge of USEPA analytical methods, including experience operating laboratory instrumentation and associated data systems.
  • Experience with EQuISTM Professional software.
  • 40‑hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ).
