Program Description
This accredited post‑graduate educational and training experience is designed to develop pharmacists with expertise in community pharmacy practice. The program is academically affiliated with MCPHS.
This affiliation affords the resident opportunities to develop teaching skills through the provision of experiential education and didactic instruction of pharmacy students.
The program will emphasize development of practical skills needed by current and future community pharmacists. As such, the majority of the resident’s time will be spent at Walgreens pharmacy in Chelsea, Massachusetts. The remainder of the time will be spent either on specialized rotations in the areas of ambulatory care, Walgreens specialty pharmacy, or teaching at MCPHS‑Boston completing various teaching components.
ResidencyComponents
- Clinical – Complete mandatory year‑long rotations in community pharmacy, ambulatory care, Walgreens specialty pharmacy, and teaching. Rotate week‑to‑week to achieve accreditation standards.
- Educational – Opportunities to teach small groups and large didactic lectures. Serve as an adjunct preceptor for the community pharmacy practice laboratory and preceptor for Pharm
D clerkship students at all sites. - Specialty Pharmacy – Develop a specialty pharmacist role. Spend time with the specialty pharmacy manager and Walgreens supervisors to understand pharmacy operations.
- Management / Leadership – Engage with state and national pharmacy associations. Attend Massachusetts Pharmacy Board meetings, local and national pharmacy meetings, and assist in legislative endeavors to advance pharmacy practice.
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Ability to obtain a pharmacist license within the state of residency within the licensure requirement deadline.
- Submission of residency application materials to Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS).
- Participation in and adherence to the rules of the ASHP Resident Matching Program.
- Certified immunizer or willingness to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
