Massachusetts Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (MABVI) offers a number of services, including a COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM in which volunteers work one-to-one with visually impaired adults in their community, assisting with reading or shopping. MABVI’s greatest need currently is for volunteers in the Boston region willing to travel anywhere in the City of Boston, and a car is required for this volunteer role.
This volunteer opportunity involves helping a participant grocery shop in Chelsea, MA, once a week or bi‑monthly.
Volunteer Responsibilities- Reading mail
- Paying bills
- Internet use/technology support
- Medical transportation
- Going grocery shopping
- Running errands in the community
- Recreational activities such as being a running/walking sighted guide
- Other clerical tasks
This opportunity is flexible based on your match’s needs. Volunteers typically devote 1–2 hours a week or every other week.
Volunteer Onboarding Process- Complete a MABVI Volunteer application
- Complete the online, modular MABVI Volunteer Training
- Schedule a time to chat via Zoom with a member of the MABVI Volunteer Team or submit a CORI
- Meet the MABVI Volunteer Team via Zoom or phone call
- MABVI matches you with a participant
