Salary: $69,315.32 – $99,195.41 annually ($1,332.99 – $1,907.60 weekly)
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday 6:30am – 3:00pm
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to locate trouble and determine repair needs. Recommends repairs to Automotive Fleet Foreman.
- Adjust repair and/or overhaul air conditioner systems, brakes, electrical systems, spring & suspension components, steering and front-end components, ignition systems, hydraulic PTO systems and valves, generators, compressors and trailers. Replace damaged/defective parts.
- Diagnose vehicle/equipment problems including diesel engines, transmissions, electric and hybrid propulsion systems, and make necessary repairs.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on various vehicles and equipment to ensure quality, safety and proper working order.
- Grease and change oil. Hydraulic fluids and coolants on a scheduled basis according to approved procedures and as directed by the Vehicle Services Supervisor or Automotive Fleet Foreman.
- Perform general and complex repairs on heavy‑duty trucks and special equipment.
- Respond to road calls and refueling situations. Make necessary repairs either on the road or in the garage.
- Perform safety checks to ensure the ability of vehicles and equipment to pass a Massachusetts Safety Inspection.
- Enter manually or by computer tasks and parts used on work orders along with diagnostic findings. Work closely with supervisor/foreman to ensure accuracy of work order information.
- Operate repair equipment such as but not limited to strut machine, tire machine, wheel balancing machine, acetylene and oxygen torch, welder, and computerized and electrical diagnostic tools.
- Operate department tow vehicles and transport vehicles/equipment from site to site, to/from vendors and from field locations.
- Recommend needed supplies.
- Perform related duties as required.
- A high school education or the equivalent; and
- At least four years of experience in repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel vehicles and equipment including experience as a vocational/technical student; or
- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within six months.
- Massachusetts Hoisting Operator’s License (1C) or the ability to obtain within six months.
- Clean Air Act section 609, motor vehicle air conditioning technician certification, by an EPA approved trainer, or the ability to obtain within six months.
- This position has been designated as essential in instances where the MWRA Executive Director requires essential personnel to report to work such as inclement weather and other emergencies.

- Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, materials, and practices used in repairing, rebuilding, and adjusting gasoline, electric and diesel powered vehicles and equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of computerized and electrical diagnostic tools such as but not limited to Autel MAX System, Snap‑on scanners, and computer based diagnostic software such as J‑Pro.
- Demonstrated skill in use of tools and equipment employed in automotive repairs, such as strut machine, tire machine, wheel balancing machine, acetylene & oxygen torch, Welder.
- Experience with the operation of tow and ramp trucks.
- Ability to maintain current licenses listed below.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Necessary reading, writing, mathematical and scientific skills and demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
