Accountant, Tax Accountant, Accounting Manager

A well-established and growing accountancy practice in Cheltenham, providing accountancy, tax and business advisory services to a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, SMEs, partnerships and private clients across the region are seeking an experienced Accountant to join their friendly and professional team. This is an excellent opportunity for a practice-trained accountant looking to develop their technical expertise and build long-term client relationships.

Your new role
You will manage a portfolio of clients, preparing accounts and tax returns while providing proactive support and advice to businesses across a range of sectors. The role offers a blend of technical accountancy work, client interaction and opportunities to support the development of junior team members.

• Preparation and review of statutory accounts for limited companies, sole traders and partnerships.
• Preparation of corporation tax returns and personal tax returns.
• Managing a portfolio of clients and acting as their main point of contact.
• Producing management accounts and financial reports.
• Assisting clients with bookkeeping and cloud accounting software.
• Providing business and financial advice to support client growth.
• Liaising directly with HMRC on client matters.
• Reviewing work prepared by junior members of staff.
• Supporting year-end accounting and compliance requirements.
• Identifying opportunities to improve client processes and efficiencies.
• Assisting Managers and Partners with advisory projects and client meetings.
• Ensuring compliance deadlines are met accurately and on time.

What you'll need to succeed

• ACA, ACCA or qualified by experience.
• Previous experience working within an accountancy practice.
• Strong accounts preparation skills.
• Experience preparing corporation tax and personal tax returns.
• Good working knowledge of UK accounting standards.
• Excellent communication and client relationship skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Proficiency in Excel and accounting software.

Desirable

• Experience using Xero, Sage, Quick Books or Iris.
• Exposure to management accounts and business advisory work.
• Experience reviewing junior staff work.
• Knowledge of cloud accounting solutions
